In 1929, the Council of
Religious Affairs in the Soviet Union banned charitable activities by
churches. Vladimir Kharchev stated, “the State cannot tolerate any
challenge to its claim on the heartstrings of the Russian people.”
Principle: He understood that whoever serves people mercifully has access to
the hearts of people, and the State, not the Church, had to have access.
The ability to lead a
society is earned, not inherited, and it is earned through acts of mercy.
Money, manpower, and mailing lists are not the keys to cultural
transformation - mercy is.
A Christian worldview must be engaged with the world – Jesus engaged Himself
through acts of mercy (Philippians 2:5-7).
